Is NAD+ like Ozempic?

HAPPY MONDAY team! I had two different ladies in my Flourish To Fit Academy ask me this exact question over the weekend. They saw a clip on social media claiming NAD+ injections are the new Ozempic for metabolic resets and quick weight loss. I know NAD+ is critical for cellular energy and mitochondrial function, but it doesn't touch appetite or gut hormones, right? Want to make sure I am giving them the absolute clearest breakdown!

Flourish, then fit.

I was literally searching this exact thing yesterday! Someone in my office said NAD+ shots made her lose weight without changing her diet. Is that actually real or just a myth?

Currently typing with correct posture. Probably.

It is pure marketing confusion. Semaglutide is a synthetic GLP-1 receptor agonist that slows gastric emptying and acts on brain centers to suppress hunger. NAD+ is a fundamental cellular coenzyme that shuttles electrons in mitochondria to synthesize ATP. It does not touch satiety hormones or force weight loss. Some medspas co-administer them to offset caloric deficit fatigue, which is where the rumor started.

Evidence first, ego last.

Complete conflation of basic biochemistry. As noted, Ozempic manipulates metabolic signaling via peptide receptors to suppress energy intake. NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is an essential electron carrier present in every living cell that naturally declines with age. It optimizes cellular energy conversion, not caloric deficit creation. Furthermore, swallowing straight NAD+ as a pill is utterly useless because the molecule is far too large and unstable to cross the gut membrane intact. If one wants to raise systemic levels orally, human trial data supports using precursors such as NR (nicotinamide riboside) or NMN, which cross cell membranes and convert endogenously. But even then, you cannot out-supplement a chronic energy surplus or poor sleep. Get your protein targets and energy availability sorted before wasting money on boutique infusions.

Nutrition is a performance variable.

Also worth noting that taking NAD+ via fast IV or sub-q injection gives you an awful flush reaction if pushed too quickly. Chest tightness, racing heart, muscle cramps, and intense nausea. I have seen people panic from rushing an infusion. Not pleasant at all.

Recovery happens at 3am, if it happens.

TikTok marketing at its finest. People will spend hundreds on a drip to avoid eating 130 grams of protein and getting 8 hours of sleep. Focus on adherence first. Shortcuts cost extra and deliver less.

Better body, better habits.

Wait, so taking an actual NAD+ pill doesn't work at all? How do NR and NMN precursors work differently inside the cell?

Collagen is a process, not a purchase.

NR and NMN are smaller precursor molecules that your digestive system can actually absorb. Once inside the cells, your body synthesizes them into active NAD+. Clinical trials show they successfully raise blood NAD+ levels and support insulin sensitivity, but again, from a public health perspective, these are metabolic support tools, not weight loss drugs.

Move well. Breathe first.

Spot on. Plus from a clinical safety standpoint, running high-dose NAD+ continually can drain your liver's methyl donors like B12 and folate over time. There are also theoretical concerns in oncology about supplying unchecked cellular fuel if someone has undiagnosed tumors. It is not something to play with casually when basic recovery habits are missing.

Slow and steady heals.

THANK YOU ALL! This is so helpful! Setting the record straight with my clients today: NAD+ optimizes cellular engine fuel, Ozempic cuts appetite. Back to tracking protein, hitting steps, and prioritizing solid sleep!
