Supraspinatus repair, month 14 update, overhead press is back

Month 14 after supraspinatus repair. Full thickness tear, degenerative, no single incident. 57 years old, retired fire service, wanted to press overhead again and was told by two people that I should let that goal go. Timeline, short version: - Six weeks in a sling. Miserable. Did the passive range work exactly as told, mostly out of boredom. - Weeks 6 to 12, active range. Slow, discouraging, could not reach a top shelf. - Month 3 to 6, strengthening. This is where it turned. Band work, then light dumbbells, then actual load. - Month 6 to 12, boring consistent progression. - Month 12 onward, pressing again. Not what I lifted at 40. More than I expected at 57. Peptide part, since this is that forum: started a compounded peptide around month 4 after a telehealth review, with my surgeon's office aware. I cannot tell you it did anything. I can tell you my range progression from month 4 to 7 was ahead of the printed timeline I was given, and I can also tell you I did every single rep of my home program which is apparently rarer than it should be. If you are two weeks post op and reading this at 3am in a sling: it gets better, it takes about a year, and the sling weeks are the worst part psychologically and the least important physically.

Two years of patience beat six months of panic.

I hope people notice the line about doing every single rep. Adherence to post-op cuff rehab is terrible in the real world. The gap between the protocol on paper and what actually gets completed at home is usually the entire explanation for why two patients with identical repairs have drastically different outcomes.

Load is the drug with the best data.

My wife would tell you I did all the reps because I'm insufferable, not disciplined. Same outcome either way.

Did the surgeon's office actually have an opinion on the peptide, or did they just tolerate it?

Collagen is a process, not a purchase.

Just tolerated it. The PA said there is no solid human evidence, it does not seem to mess with healing, and to speak up if anything changes. After reading this forum for a year, that feels like a spot-on summary.

That PA gave a better evidence summary in one sentence than most vendor sites manage in two thousand words.

Preclinical is not a promise.

Pressing again at 12 months post-op at 57 is awesome. Did you end up telling those two people who told you to give up on overhead work?

Isometrics before ice. Every time.
